Solvo at MED Ports and Shipping 2022: Smart Automation for Every Cargo Flow

MED Ports and Shipping 2022

Discover how Solvo.TOS brings vessel and rail automation into one smart ecosystem!

At the 9th Mediterranean Ports and Shipping Exhibition and Conference, held in Portorož, Slovenia, Solvo presented its cutting-edge solutions for vessel and railway operations automation. Giovanni Migliaccio, Vice President Sales & Marketing at Solvo Europe B.V., took the stage as a featured speaker during the session on emerging port technologies and smart terminal automation.

Solvo.TOS: a flexible IT ecosystem for terminal operations

Giovanni’s presentation highlighted the key features of Solvo.TOS – a modular, customizable Terminal Operating System designed to support multimodal logistics. The system tracks the full history of each cargo unit, applies intelligent business rules for equipment management, and enables seamless digital integration with global supply chain partners. Based on real-world Solvo projects, the solution covers all fronts: sea, rail, and road.

Smart logistics in action: from vessel to train and beyond

Solvo.TOS supports complex cargo handling chains: for example, a container with cars can arrive by sea, be stripped at the terminal, and continue its journey by rail or Ro-Ro. The system’s algorithms help reclassify cargo, select optimal handling routes, and ensure accurate documentation. Cargo types supported include containers, bulk, breakbulk, Ro-Ro, and special cargo like paper reels or metals.

Modular solutions for every terminal type

Solvo offers tailored configurations for marine and inland terminals, as well as multipurpose hubs. With modules for vessel planning, yard management, and railway operations, terminals can automate:

  • Vessel call registration and berthing
  • Container loading/unloading planning with Cargo Planner and UVP
  • Rail car staging and rail consignment tracking
  • Truck scheduling and dynamic yard stacking
  • Bringing the digital port ecosystem to life

One of the standout advantages of Solvo.TOS is its ability to integrate diverse systems and assets into a single digital environment. From automated work orders to real-time terminal layout management, the system ensures high efficiency, transparency, and traceability across operations. As Giovanni noted, a well-implemented TOS becomes not just a management tool but the digital core of a terminal ecosystem — connecting equipment, teams, and partners.

We thank the MED Ports and Shipping 2022 organizers and attendees for the engaging discussions and the opportunity to share our vision of the smart, connected terminal of the future.
