Choose the right picking method for each order profile

No single picking method works for every warehouse. A distributor may ship full pallets and cartons, an e-commerce operation may process thousands of small orders, and a 3PL may apply different rules for each customer.

Picking strategies differ by operating model. A distribution center WMS may prioritize pallet and carton throughput, a retail and e-commerce WMS may focus on high-volume piece picking, and a 3PL WMS may apply different fulfillment rules for each customer within the same facility.

Coordinate allocation, replenishment, and execution

Picking cannot start successfully if the required stock is not available in the correct location. Solvo.WMS can allocate inventory using FIFO, FEFO, lot, serial, quality status, owner, customer, or other business rules. It then coordinates replenishment of active pick areas with outbound demand.

Tasks can be grouped and prioritized so operators and equipment work on the most relevant orders. Mobile or workstation interfaces guide the user to the location, identify the required goods and quantity, and request confirmation. Scanning or other Auto-ID verification helps prevent wrong-item, wrong-location, and wrong-handling-unit errors.

As tasks are completed, supervisors see current progress, shortages, exceptions, and workload. Priorities can be adjusted when order cut-offs, resource availability, or operational conditions change.

Manage cartons, totes, pallets, and individual items

Solvo.WMS supports configurable packaging hierarchies, units of measure, and handling units. A fulfillment process can start from a reserve pallet, replenish cartons to a picking area, select individual items into a tote, and consolidate them into an outbound package while retaining the inventory relationships created at each stage.

This is important for warehouses that combine B2B, retail, e-commerce, manufacturing, or 3PL orders. The same stock can be handled at different levels without losing traceability.

Continue control through packing, staging, and loading

Order fulfillment does not end when picking is confirmed. Goods may need consolidation, value-added work, packing, labeling, documentation, quality checks, or shipment sequencing.

Solvo.WMS can direct completed picks to the correct downstream area, verify order contents, and assign packed units to staging or loading positions. Rules can reflect route, vehicle, stop sequence, customer, carrier, temperature, hazard, or other operating constraints when those data are available through the warehouse process and integrations.

Integrate picking technology and automation

Solvo.WMS can work with handheld terminals, voice systems, pick-to-light, put-to-light, conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, shuttle systems, robots, labeling equipment, and other specialized technologies. It can also exchange orders and statuses with ERP, order management, transport, customer, and reporting systems.
