Integrating Rail Infrastructure into Yard Management

Railway yard for warehouses with mixed transport infrastructure

How are warehouses and terminals usually bridging?

In today’s logistics landscape, warehouse and cargo terminal infrastructures are becoming increasingly interconnected. While traditionally treated as separate components of the supply chain, in reality, terminals are often built adjacent to or directly integrated with warehouses — with rail lines leading straight to the storage zones. To reflect this, IT developers now aim to offer integrated solutions that accommodate this hybrid setup.

Solvo.SCE: A Unified Logistics Platform

Solvo has responded to this need by offering a comprehensive logistics platform — Solvo.SCE. This solution combines systems for warehouse automation (WMS), yard management (YMS), cargo terminal and multi-purpose terminal operations (TOS), alongside tools for customer communication, pricing, invoicing, reporting, and analytics.

Solvo’s latest step: integrating its TOS modules into Solvo.YMS for rail-connected warehouse yards.

“Solvo.TOS includes a full suite of tools for automating rail operations at cargo terminals. We’re now adapting these tools for warehouse facilities equipped with rail access,” reports the company’s sales department. “For example, we’re currently working with a manufacturing enterprise that needs to automate both vehicle and rail wagon handling — including wagon scheduling, RFID-based identification, processing both liquid and packaged goods, multi-stage weighing, and more.”

Flexible Integration, Intelligent Automation

The new module incorporates Solvo’s accumulated experience from terminal automation, along with railway-specific data from logistics operators: track maps, junctions, loading/unloading zones, railcar models, mileage estimations, and more. Clients can provide additional data directly into the system for deeper customization.
Wagon visit registration can be tailored to company preferences — from semi-manual input by warehouse staff to full integration with external systems. Solvo also offers:

  • Mobile Android app for tracking rail and truck handling operations on-site
  • RFID-enabled automation, identifying railcars in real time
  • Integration with OCR and even CCTV systems for wagon recognition
  • Compatibility with existing third-party infrastructure for seamless data exchange

Solvo’s flexible Yard Management System draws from years of TOS project experience. Highly customizable and modular, it enables tailored implementation — adapting to the client’s infrastructure and delivering automation where it matters most.
